KS5: Option Blocks
Our Key Stage 5 curriculum is designed to provide specialist training in a more specific skill set and also allow students the flexibility to mix hands-on applied learning with academic subjects if they wish. Students study 2 or more subjects for up to 15 hours per week plus their own independent study and creative practice time.
This curriculum provides students with industry relevant vocational training and all qualifications are UCAS recognised meaning that students graduated with high levels of UCAS points. Please note, our post 16 offer is a Level 3 provision. Therefore, in order to be eligible for a place at Elstree Screen Arts Post 16, we require all students to have passed Level 2 study. We measure this by requiring that all applicants have achieved five Level 2 qualification (GCSEs and equivalent) at grade 9-4 or equivalent (including English and Maths). We also require students to achieve a grade 6 or higher (equivalent to Level 2 Merit or higher) in a related subject to the area they wish to study at level 3. For art, craft and performance courses, we do also take portfolios and auditions into account.
The subject options are outlined below. We offer specialist A Level courses (usually a more academic course) and we offer Technical / Vocational qualifications designed for creative industry readiness (these are large practical courses equivalent to 3 A Levels). Please note that T Levels include industry placements and therefore have limited places and cannot be taken in conjunction with any other courses.
If you wish to study a Technical / Vocational qualification, please pick one from the first column below. If you wish to study A Levels, please pick 3 from the second column. Please note that some subject combinations may not be possible but we aim to provide you with your preferred selection where possible.

ESA Magic at Post-16
In addition to our courses, we run a range of creative curricular projects that provide students with professional quality showreel and portfolio content and in some cases official credits. Creative industry partners highly value this project based experience and we expect post 16 students to fully engage in our extended curriculum. In year 13, our most experienced students can be recognised as craft experts in a particular field and become ESA ‘prefects’. This is dependent on their level of interaction with extended curriculum projects.
