ESA Post 16 Outcomes - A Level, Level 3 and Level 4 results

Elstree Screen Arts sees students achieve superb results.  The Principal Chris Mitchell said “I can’t quite believe it… this year, students have done even better yet again.  Students have surpassed our expectations to achieve simply knock out results.”  

  • 91% of students achieved A* to C (or equivalent) - Up by 11% compared to last year

  • 99% of all Level 3 qualifications were A* to E (or equivalent)

  • 61% achievements at A* to B (or equivalent) - Up by 13% compared to last year

  • 44% of outcomes were A* to A (or equivalent) - Up by 20% compared to last year

Congratulations to all our trainees and students on their excellent achievements.  As the creative academy specialising in the trades, crafts and technical disciplines for the cultural industries, ESA is particularly delighted by some amazing outcomes in Media Production, Film Studies, Production Hair & Makeup, Art & Design, Sound Production and Across the Performing Arts. 64% of students across these subjects achieved the top grades available - what an achievement.

But now for the exciting bit… As impressive as these results are, what we really care about at ESA is the progress our students make.  Every student has a target set for them before they begin their level 3 course.  This target is objective because it is set by ‘Alps’ a target setting and national bench marking organisation used by over a thousand schools and colleges in England.  Alps set targets for students based on their GCSE grades.  At ESA, 93% of students met or exceeded their Alps projected grade and 65% of students beat their projection by at least one whole grade.  This is simply superb.

As an inclusive creative school, we are also proud as can be by the achievements of our students who have a Special Education Needs or Disability [SEND].  Nationally SEND students achieve lower than non SEND students and this is referred to as the SEND gap.  However ESA is celebrating that our cohort of students with SEND performed better in comparison to non SEND students - there is no SEND gap.  100% of SEND students achieved their Alps projected grade and 80% surpassed their target grade.  This shows how well committed, diverse learners can achieve when they are studying a hands-on creative curriculum supported by staff and each other.

ESA ScreenCraft offers creative industry training to 18 and 19 year olds.  Both the ScreenSkills accredited trainees and our Level 4 diploma students had a simply brilliant year.  48 students completed the ScreenSkills traineeship with employer partners including Panavision, Angel Costumes, BBC, Banijay and Love Productions.  100% of level 4 diploma students passed with 40% achieving Distinction [+4% on last year] and 65% achieved Distinction to Merit.

Outstanding Progress

Ordinarily we would now list all the students who achieved beyond their targets in all the subjects they studied but there are simply too many to list.  40% of our total cohort achieved beyond expectation in all subjects.  This is remarkable.  A phenomenal statistic that shows how much a young person can flourish and excel when they are studying what they love and learning through creative, vocational training.
