Our Post 16 Results 2024

What a year!

ESA continues to lead the way with outstanding outcomes for students in specialist training and creative courses for the film, TV and Theatre industries.

  • 80% of students achieved A* to C (or equivalent) - Up compared to last year.

  • Just under half, 48% of students achieved A* to B (or equivalent) - highest number ever achieving A* to B

  • A quarter of students (24%) achieved A* to A (or equivalent)

Congratulations to all our trainees and students on their excellent achievements.  As the creative academy specialising in the trades, crafts and technical disciplines for the cultural industries, ESA is particularly delighted by some amazing outcomes in Visual Arts, Digital Games Design, Production Arts, Sound Technology, Photography and Specialist Production Hair and Makeup where (on average) over 70% of students achieved A* to B or equivalent.  Our Forensic Science students also achieved fantastic results with 89% of students achieving A* to B or equivalent.

Closing the achievement gap for students with Special Educational Needs

As an inclusive creative school, we are also keen to celebrate the achievements of our students with Special Education Needs or Disabilities [SEND] who performed in line with all other students.  Nationally there is a gap between the achievements of SEND students and those without additional learning needs but at ESA, there is no gap.  This shows how well committed diverse learners can achieve when they are studying a hands on creative curriculum.

ScreenCraft - Level 4 Outcomes and Traineeships for young Adults

ESA ScreenCraft offers creative industry training to 18 and 19 year olds.  Both the ScreenSkills accredited trainees and our Level 4 diploma students had a simply brilliant year.  48 students completed the ScreenSkills traineeship with employer partners including Camera Revolutions, Angel Costumes, BBC, TwoFour, Halo, ITV, Banijay and Love Productions.  100% of level 4 diploma students passed with 36% achieving Distinction and 77% achieving Distinction to Merit [up on last year].  96% of our CraftSkills trainees graduated and are now creative trainees in the UK film and TV industries.

Increasing Access and Opportunity

ESA has a commitment to creating opportunities for students currently under-represented in the creative sector and so we are delighted that 86% of students from disadvantaged backgrounds met or exceeded their expected grades [18% up on last year].

Students are moving on to nationally renowned destinations to continue their creative industry training including Bournemouth Arts University, University Arts London [UAL], Manchester University, London College of Fashion, Bristol University, LIPA [Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts [LIPA], Falmouth University and Ravensbourne University.  Students are also moving onto industry training including SONY internship, Traineeship at Pinewood Studios, Virtual Design Trainee at Escape Studios.

Exceeding Expectations

Most importantly, ESA prides itself on being a creative institution that cares about the type of person our young people become, not just what grade they get.  Commitment, compassion and creativity matter so much more than passing an exam so we are overjoyed that 80% of students achieved grades in line with expectation [up 16% from last year] and 58% over achieved [up 24% from last year]!
