Physical Education

Physical education is an integral part of the world we live in from competition and teamwork to how we stay healthy and strong. It is therefore an integral part of the curriculum at ESA. ESA Active is a concept that came about in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. It was an opportunity for those at home to stay active, through various challenges and development of skills.  We have built on ESA Active and it is now a full PE core curriculum developing healthy, strong and coordinated young adults.

ESA Active allows students of all needs to attend and participate in a curriculum designed for engagement, participation and retention as students attend Elstree.  In 2020 we opened our new sports pitch, a gym, dance studio and changing facilities.  Since then ESA Active has seen our participation rates go from 50% to 95% in every lesson. Students are getting excited to learn about how their bodies work, develop new skills in games and sports and development new motor skills and coordinations.  This year we will have our 4th annual Sports Day where we merge sport and our specialism into fun teamwork and competition including fan favourites like the MakeUp race, the catwalk relay and synchronised swimming (without the water!).

The 7C’s are embedded into each unit of the PE curriculum and into the delivery of each lesson to help create well rounded active people.
